"WE BOTH KNOW" Q&A

Each of my songs are personal. With elaborate backstory's from origination to music video production. Here's a little storytelling about how my new single came to be.

What inspired this track?

The feminine that carries wisdom in her bones and truth on her lips. I believe there's a special breed of women here to guide others back to their truest selves. They are the mirror. The tough love. The siren call for you to come home to self. But as society demonstrates, most people don't want the truth. It's scary for people to dive into the deepest, darkest parts of themselves. To embrace it. They usually avoid and distract at all cost so they don't have to sit with their truth. Their individuality. Let alone digest that of others. This woman who beckons their truth, "holds a candle to your soul" makes them wildly uncomfortable.

The lyrical visual of the "Woman in the Woods" is to show both her isolation from society as well as her deep connection to nature. She is tapped into her intuition, therefore often sees life play out before hand.

She's magic, but wants others to know they are too. If they tap in. Connect with true self. And the divinity within each and every one of us.

How was the writing process?

This is my second release with full writing credit. Writing came fairly quickly on this one up through the bridge. I finished the bridge while in studio recording. Sometimes we need that production inspiration to know if we want to explode at the bridge or strip it down. I needed that feeling first.

Most of my time is spent on my self-growth journey. Working on myself. Understanding on a deep level who I am and where my soul's at on my journey here. I have always skimmed metaphysical topics in my writing but this is the first time I'm diving into the deep end. Perhaps bringing up concepts that most aren't familiar with or dug into yet.

We are very much in a fake-forward society right now. From plastic surgery to repeating the same viral social media skit. There's just a lack of authenticity across the board. I find more and more I want to write about the broken parts of our society and about the light that could change it.

Birds, particularly hawks, have been a significant part of my spiritual and musical journey. Right before we wrapped up production on this, I had the idea of adding bird sounds and I'm so glad we did. It's become my favorite part of the track. Starting and ending with what personally grounds me and brings me back to self, nature.

How was the recording process?

MEET THE PRODUCER

For "Woman in the Woods" I teamed up with Multi-Platinum LA Producer, Zack Burke. Zack reached out wanting to work together after he stumbled upon my last release "We Both Know." One vibe-check phone call later, and we hit the virtual studio. Zack is based in LA and I'm on the east coast so we tracked everything via zoom sessions. â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹It was a great pleasure to collab with him on this one.

VOCAL ENGINEERING

April Ultima based out of Vibe Recording Studios in Ponte Vedra, FL tracked vocals for "Woman in the Woods." She is such a talent in her own right, and I have wanted to work together for quite some time now. Glad it finally came together.

I have typically self-tracked my vocals, but it was really important for me to get in the studio for this one. I have what I call "red light syndrome." My musical journey started with a fear of singing, and though I have overcome so much, especially with live performance. There is still a freezing and a struggle in comfort when it comes to recording. April's beautiful energy and ease made this a great growth experience which I'm grateful for.

Release time. What's new?

PORTUGAL

Took a page out of my last release, to take this affair abroad. I moved into an isolated storybook cottage perched in the mystical woods of Sintra, Portugal to bring this song visually and spiritually to life.

There is something magical in the air in Sintra. A land of a thousand palaces, misty rolling clouds. Cliffs fit for sirens and a fairy forest that'll make you believe in magic.

I collaborated with local photographer/videographer, Tit Viscek, who beautifully and cinematically captured the song's story with this stunning geography as the backdrop.

I personally styled the clothing, this time sourcing the dress and jewelry locally. I was in search of finding the exact color of the flowers I kept seeing and lowandbehold I found it.

Like I did with my last release, I curated a vintage Portuguese Collection during my travels there and am selling it in my shop JESABEL home. It features an array of artisan hand-printed ceramics, art, clothing, home decor and jewelry.
